Garden Furniture

Garden furniture has been made from a variety of materials over the past 50 years and this has changed substantially, especially in the last 20 years. The designs and the materials have increasingly become more sophisticated and are often now combined on the same productIn the 1960s garden furniture was traditionally made from wood. High quality garden furniture was made from Teak wood and cheaper furniture from softwood. Cheaper furniture was also made in tubular aluminium. During the late 1960’s, through the 1970’s and early 1980’s, white resin furniture dominated the industry. In the mid 1980’s and 1990’s quality hardwood garden furniture became more prevalent and dominated the higher price garden furniture sets, whilst aluminium garden furniture and cast aluminium were sold in larger volumes where discount garden furniture was required.By the turn of the century, a whole host of materials were in common use. Teak garden furniture and Iroko garden furniture were still being sold in large volumes as upmarket outdoor furniture. Aluminium, stainless steel and textilene were increasingly used and also combinations of Teak wood, Aluminium and glass. In the past 5 years an all weather wicker material has become the most popular choice for garden and conservatory furniture. The synthetic wicker is normally woven over an aluminium frame and as long as a high quality manufacturer is used, the furniture will require no maintenance.
