Designing an Outdoor Living Area with an Unlimited Budget

What’s your idea of the ultimate in luxurious outdoor living?  If money were not an issue, if you had access to the best landscape designers and the finest materials, what would you put in your garden area? Whilst you dream about your paradise, let me tell you about mine.

My ideal garden is full of water features. Water adds an energizing yet restful ambiance. Multiple freestanding Italianate marble fountains would line a landscaped path, providing sound and visual pleasure. Each of the fountains would have planting on top and the water would be lit at night.

My garden is perfect for entertaining. Of course my own Garden of Eden has a pool. Floating pool chairs and a basketball hoop make the saltwater pool great fun for young and old. For friends who want to stay dry, comfortable rattan loungers with side tables line the pool deck. Because I care about the environment and don’t want to waste energy, I have a bank of solar collectors on the roof of the house to heat the pool.

When it’s time for lunch we walk a few steps to the outdoor kitchen, where the refrigerator is stocked with cold drinks and sandwiches. In summer we pick tomatoes for our sandwiches from the raised bed garden. The tile sink makes it easy to wash up before eating. Everyone gathers around the wooden-topped metal table for lunch.

After lunch it’s time for a nap on the luxurious and stylish Bridgman Valentine sunbed. Made from synthetic Rattan and topped with waterproof cushions, this sunbed can stay outdoors in any weather. The large wheels make it easy to move the bed wherever you want–from the pool deck to the screen house to the lawn. Shaded by a cantilevered umbrella, the sunbed is perfect for an afternoon nap or a night of stargazing.

Ready for the spa? My elegant stone Jacuzzi gives my garden resort-like luxury. Drink holders on the edge of the Jacuzzi make it easy for my guests to stay hydrated. My guests relax on cushioned recliners after their time in the spa. There’s no need to go inside for supper. A small teak table and chairs provide a romantic setting for dinner for two. Put the steaks on the gas grill—what could be better?

An evening chill doesn’t send us indoors because my stainless steel fire pit keeps us warm well into the evening. I can entertain outdoors all year round because the fire pit radiates warmth and creates an atmosphere of comfort and elegance. There’s no need for outdoor lighting when the moon is out, but on dark nights the solar lights offer soft lighting and a feeling of safety.

My garden paradise makes me very popular indeed; my guests enjoy it so much they never want to leave.

What would be in your perfect garden?
