5 Great Summer Games to Spice Up Your Garden Party

With games galore, garden parties in the U.S. are tons of fun. Our friends across the ocean are happy to share their summer games, so here are five of the best for you to try in your garden or in the park.

  1. Washer Pitching

Like horseshoe pitching, washer pitching is a game of skill that involves tossing objects into a target. In this case, you toss washers into a 14-inch (35.56 cm) square box 20 feet (6.10 m) away. There are two boxes. In the centre of each box is a round PVC cup that is 4 inches (10.16 cm) in diameter and 4 inches (10.16 cm) high.Man from usa plays the washer pitching gamePlayers take turns throwing four washers into the opposite cup one at a time. Players gain points according to how close their washers are to the cup or box. The first player who gets 21 points wins.

  2. Bean Bag Toss

Also called cornhole, corn toss, baggo, or bags, bean bag toss requires players to throw bags at a hole in an angled platform. A bag in the hole is worth three points, whilst a bag on the platform is worth one point. Players continue to toss the bean bags until one player (or team) has 21 points.

Playing Bean Bag toss A set of bean bags consists of four bags of different colours, each weighing about 15 ounces (425 grams). There are two platforms, each 2 feet (.6 m) x 4 feet (1.22 m) and angled so the top is 12 inches (30.48 cm) higher than the bottom. A 6-inch (25.34 cm) diameter hole is in the centre of each platform 9 inches (22.86 cm) from the platform top.  In an official setup there’s 27 feet (8.23 m) between the bottoms of the platforms. Players take turns tossing the bags from a pitcher’s box toward the opposite platform.

  3. Kanjam

Kanjam involves tossing discs into scoring containers placed 50 feet (15.24m) apart. The scoring containers have slots in their sides as well as open tops. Players get points for discs they throw into the container through either opening.

Kanjam is played in teams. Team members can deflect a thrower’s toss to redirect it into a container, but more points are awarded for discs that get in without help. A thrower who tosses the kanjam disc into the container without teammate help scores an instant win for his or her team.

  4. Ladder Golf

Ladder golf is played with bolas; a bola consists of two golf balls attached together by a nylon string.  The object of the game is to wrap your bola around the steps of a three-step ladder.

  5. Pipe Ball

In the game of pipe ball, players toss tennis balls into pipes of different heights. To make the game you cut drainpipe into 10 pieces and connect the pieces to form a rack, similar to a rack of pool balls. The top of each pipe is angled.
